Recipe of the Month

Tarte Tatin (Recipe Reprise)

Our Recipe of the Month is for French Tarte Tatin, caramelized "upside-down" pie typically made with apples. It's origin and the best way to prepare it are in dispute; what is not contested, however, how absolutely delicious it is!

CD of the Month

Our International Music CD for the Month selection is De Todas las Flores (All of the Flowers) by Mexican singer-songwriter Natalia Lafourcade. NPR Music ranked it 15th in their 50 Best Albums of 2022. Although a chart-topper for many years in the Latin music scene, Lafourcade gained international for her and American artist Miguel's rendition of "Remember Me" that was featured in the U.S. version of the 2017 animated film Coco. The song won that year's Oscar for "Best Original Song". De Todas las Flores is composed of entirely original songs.

Book of the Month

This month's Book of the Month recommendation is "Long Petal of the Sea" by Isabel Allende. This sweeping epic traces the journey of two young Catalonians, Victor and Roser, who are compelled to escape Spain following the conclusion of the Spanish Civil War. They eventually find themselves in Chile, a country beautifully described by the poet Pablo Neruda as a "long petal of sea, wine, and snow." However, their brief respite is disrupted when Chile spirals into a devastating conflict between freedom and repression, mirroring the turmoil they witnessed and suffered in Spain. Spanning numerous decades filled with turbulent events and personal trials, the hearts of Victor and Roser become deeply interwoven.
